Estefany’s Family
Her mother Teresith, from the Spanish Magreb, always took care of Aysun Estefanie’s interests since she was a little girl; at the age of six years old, used to take her to piano lessons untill her adolescence, when the pianist, besides her piano studies and concert activities, undertook the path as researcher of interesting subjects about the piano literature. This is how her inner musicologist was born, activity that she keeps on practicing nowadays.
She was still too young when her mother passed away, her guardian angel, but from her, she took the strength to continue the path of her life and career. An important familiar character in Aysun Estefanie’s life was her maternal grandfather Jose, sculptor as profession and tenor; keen on opera, died before Aysun Estefanie’s birth, but the pianist had the chance to know him through Teresith’s words, who conserved carefully the sculptures and the opera scores of her father Jose. The pianist loved her grandfather with admiration, as she always knew him, inheriting a strong opera temperament in her piano interpretations.Aysun Estefanie had a special connection with Turkey through her paternal grandmother Ayse Maria, woman with a strong personality, from who she learnt to apply discipline in everything, assimilating a strict education and a great respect for the value of life. But she also gave to Aysun Estefanie an intense affection, in a almost motherly level.
When her grandmother died, for the pianist the loss felt unbridgeable, but made the bond with her father Hamed Giuseppe more tough, their lives became symbiotic , across the good and the bad, standing united to take every decision. As years were passing, Hamed Giuseppe had to face a serious disability and decided to live with his daughter, had the chance to know her partner Murat Genger and restored his deep attachment to Turkey, thing that he had lost during his childhood.
Daughter and father never resigned themselves to that enemy called disability, Hamed Giuseppe attended every concert of Aysun Estefanie, they had the joy of sharing memories which belong just to the two of them, as the blue eyes of the father sparkling with tears of emotion just when his daughter was performing. He passed away in Istanbul, Turkey, leaving Aysun Estefanie in a devastating pain, with a wound in her heart that will never heal.
